Fake currency notes in market panic shopkeepers

Fake currency notes have hit several markets of the city, creating panic among shopkeepers. The currency notes of `100 denominations having some errors, which cannot be noticed at a glance, are making rounds in the market.

Shopkeepers of Basant Nagar area noticed the fake currency notes that some of the customers exchanged against grocery items. These shopkeepers were in dilemma over informing the police about it. The shopkeepers said the police could harass them by calling them for investigation again and again.

Ramesh Kumar, who runs a grocery shop in Basant Nagar area, said “On Sunday, when I was collecting the notes, I noticed errors in currency notes. I talked to other shopkeepers of the area who told me that they too have got the same currency notes.”

The currency notes having no water mark of Mahatma Gandhi on it. Moreover, the currency notes have same series numbers printed on it.
“All 15 shopkeepers of the area are having such currency notes, it means someone living in the area have such notes,” said Vijay Kumar, who owns a dairy.

When contacted police commissioner Pramod Ban, he said the police will investigate the matter and will try to nab the culprit behind it.
