Reacting to the judgment, Kamajeet Singh, the complainant in the case was happy that finally Bibi Jagir Kaur was behind bars. "However, I am not satisfied with judgment. She must be held guilty under charges of murder of Harpreet and I would approach higher court for that", Kamaljeet told HT.
"It's the victory of my love for Harpreet. Now I can say that Harpreet's soul will rest in peace. Refusing offers and not bowing to several threats, I fought for justice and now Bibi is in jail," he said adding that "She (Bibi) not only spoiled her life, lost her daughter but also took nearly 12 valuable years of my life. Had Bibi agreed to our marriage, nothing of such sort would have happened. Now she has to pay for sins", said Kamaljeet, the complainant in the case.
Ironically, Kamaljeet in year 2010 had turned hostile in the case. However, he again moved court for re-examination.
"I turned hostile as I was under immense pressure particularly after the death of Dr BS Sohal, who was an approver in the case and died in a road accident in 2008. Bibi Jagir Kaur used her political power not only to harass me and my family, but also force my community to boycott us. Under pressure and facing death threats, I backtracked. However, later I realised that if I backtrack I would be committing a sin against Harpreet. Thus, I gathered courage and re-approched the court to re-record my statements against Bibi", he said.
Kamaljeet further said that he welcomes the judgment of court which sent Bibi to jail, but not satisfied with the dropping of murder charges against the accused. "They murdered her after forcefully aborting my child by keeping Rosy (Harpreet) in confinement in Phagwara", he said adding that he would appeal against the judgment in a higher court to get Bibi Jagir Kaur and others convicted of murder.
