Satnam Singh, president, Anti-Crime and Lok Bhalai Trust, brought the matter in the knowledge of police commissioner Paramjit Singh Gill on Monday and sought action against the cop. Satnam produced the video CD of the head constable accepting bribe to the police commissioner.
The video recording, which is also in the possession of HT, shows head constable Suresh Kumar accepting two bundles of currency from the nephew of Mundar Singh, a resident of Kutbewal Gujran village, in the presence of other police officials.
The head constable, while accepting the bribe from Mundar's nephew, brazenly asked him why he did not bring currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination.
Mundar Singh had a feud with his brother Kaka Singh on August 15. Kaka had allegedly assaulted Mundar, following which the latter made a complaint with the Ladhowal police station on the same day against his brother.
Head constable Suresh Kumar had allegedly demanded bribe from Mundar to favour him and also threatened him that if he did not give him money he would register a case against him.
On asking, police commissioner Gill said he did not remember the particular case as he met several people on Monday who filed their complaints.
He said if there was any such incident then the police would take stern action against the accused.
Satnam said his organisation had been fighting against corruption from the past many years. He got the video from a source and produced it before the police commissioner to take action against the tainted official.
