He said that ADR centres and legal clinics were being established across the country with an aim to reduce the number of pending cases. ADR would help poor litigants to easily approach the judiciary to seek justice.

Surya said that an ADR centre would be established in every district of Punjab to resolve disputes through mediation. Advocates deputed by the Punjab and Haryana high court will give legal guidance and help the litigants to resolve matters through mutual understanding.

He said that soon the judicial officers/advocates will impart legal knowhow to selected volunteers from villages who would then guide people about their legal rights through the ADR centres. "Our main aim is to empower the common man by making them more aware about their legal and fundamental rights," he said.

District and session judge Raj Shekher Attari said that the free legal services authority on February 18 had held a mega lok adalat in which 6018 cases were settled through mutual consent.
