Considering the increasing demand for bakery products, the jail authorities have decided to increase the manufacturing of bakery items up to 10 times. For this, the jail department has even purchased new machinery and sent it to the Central Jail. According to SP Khanna, superintendent, Ludhiana Central Jail, said the new machinery would start functioning in the next 20 days.

Currently, the bakery is manufacturing 200 kg cookies on a regular basis. With the installation of the new machinery, the production will be increased up to 2,000 kg daily.

“Currently, at least 50 jail inmates are working in the bakery unit. With the installation of the new machinery, we'll increase the number of inmates as well,” the superintendent said.

“The bakery items at the jail are comparatively cheap and 100% pure. Not only this, we've trained inmates, who had been working in the bakery, in such a way that they can start their own businesses after getting released from the jail,” he said.
