A love affair over a social networking website has a landed a city-based minor girl and her parents in trouble.

After her online friend allegedly abducted her on the pretext of marriage in May 2013, the Class-12 student's parents have been running from pillar to post to trace her.

The parents had appeared before the police commissioner at the complaints redressal camp held by the police on January 3, following which the top cop marked an inquiry to additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) city-4 Swapan Sharma.

Bhupinder Das, a resident of Shankar Colony of Bhamiyan, father of the abducted girl, said after her abduction, he had lodged an FIR against the accused on May 26, 2013, at Jamalpur police station. He had submitted in the FIR that the accused, Prabhjot Singh of Ambala, along with his mother Balbir Kaur, had called his daughter to the railway station and abducted her. However, the police did nothing to recover his daughter.

Das said his daughter had come in contact with the accused through the social networking site, Facebook. "I had asked my daughter to stop talking to the accused, but she paid no heed. The accused had tried to abduct her in March 2013 too, but had failed," the father rued.

Das suspects that the accused either killed his daughter or sold her to some brothel. He said he visited the police station every day, but the police were sitting on their hands.

He also alleged that the accused had been threatening him with dire consequences if he did not withdraw the complaint.

When contacted, ADCP Swapan Sharma refuted the allegations leveled by Das.

He said the police had conducted six raids in Ambala and Meerut to arrest the accused. He added that the accused had applied for bail in Punjab and Haryana high court, and it was only due to police efforts that the bail was rejected.

He claimed that police efforts were on and the accused would be arrested soon.
