The fine would be doubled if one repeats the same violation.

The notification has been enforced from Tuesday in all districts of the state. The officers have been asked to brief the facts of the notification among the subordinates for implementation.

The minimum penalty for traffic violation would be Rs 300 in some categories, while it will be Rs 1,000 for using mobile phone while driving and unauthorised use of black films.

Earlier, the police officials used to slam a paltry fine of Rs 100 on traffic violators.

According to the officers, the increase in penalty will help curb traffic violations, as a majority of people do not bother paying Rs 100 for a traffic violation.

Police commissioner Ishwar Singh said the notification had been implemented with immediate effect. The officers would brief the notifications among the subordinates on Wednesday.
