Following the intelligence input, the state police headquarters has alerted chiefs of police districts and police commissionerates, asking them to beef up security, especially when VVIPs visit their respective areas.
Sources said the telegraph printed message received at all district police headquarters two days ago said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia and DGP Sumedh Singh Saini were on the hit list of terrorist groups.
Ludhiana-based Shiv Sena leader Rajiv Tandon is also on the hit list for "issuing statements" against militants.
Sources said Ludhiana police commissioner Ishwar Singh convened a meeting of police officials two days ago, asking them to be alert and check vehicles and suspected persons.
As a preventive measure, the Ludhiana police have also provided security to Tandon. Earlier, in wake of the cutting down of security of leaders on the directions of the deputy chief minister, the police had withdrawn the gunmen from Tandon. The Ludhiana police commissionerate had withdrawn 73 gunmen from various people.
