Despite tall claims of police, incidents of loot are rampant in the city. The police have been able to solve only one loot case that occurred on July 18 in which miscreants looted cash worth `15 lakh and gold jewellery from the house of property dealer at Basant Avenue. The police have arrested a relative of the property dealer and his accomplices and recovered `7 lakh from their possession.
On July 17, some unidentified persons looted `2.5 lakh from an employee of telecom distributor after kidnapping him in broad daylight in Shivpuri area. The case is still unsolved.
On July 15, a gang of women cons robbed an 80-year-old woman of gold bangles on Cemetery Road near Fountain Chowk on Tuesday by offering her lift in a car. After this two more such incidents occurred in the city where the same gang of women cons looted women by offering them lift in the car.
On July 26, a scrap dealer was robbed of `8 lakh. Four motorcycle-borne youths attacked Ramesh Kumar and his employee and snatched their bag which contained `8 lakh.
On July 24, Hardeep Singh, a businessman, was kidnapped by some car-borne youths. The miscreants shot in his leg and managed to flee with his car after throwing him out of the car near Sahnewal.
Vijay Kumar, a jeweller, was also robbed of `85,000 in July. Some unidentified miscreants had thrown chilli powder in Vijay's eyes and fled the spot after snatching `85,000 cash and 185 gm gold jewellery from him.
On July 12, some miscreants looted `7.25 lakh from a petrol pump employee near Aggar Nagar.
The police are still struggling for clues in all the remaining eight cases. They are yet to ensure adequate security arrangements in the city.
