Punjabi singer Nachhatar Gill booked for rape

After a four-month-long inquiry, the Ludhiana police on Thursday booked Punjabi singer Nachhatar Gill and his three accomplices for rape, issuing threats and making obscene video of an aspiring model. Tarsem Singh Deogan reports.

An FIR under sections 376, 420, 506, and 66 E and 67 A of Information Technology Act was registered against the singer. Inspector Sukhwinder Kaur, SHO at police station woman has been probing the matter. The police have not arrested the singer yet.

Gill landed in a trouble after an aspiring model of Humbran Road, Ludhiana, alleged sexual exploitation by him. She alleged that Gill and his accomplices had established physical relations with her on the pretext of casting her in films and music videos and making her a top model.

The girl was appeared before the then Ludhiana police commissioner Ishwar Singh in February this year and alleged that Gill had given her a cold drink laced with sedative at a Chandigarh hotel where they took objectionable pictures of her.

The victim disclosed that she had come in contact with Gill when she was adjudged first runners-up at a beauty pageant at Jalandhar in 2006, where the singer was one of the judges. The duo soon became intimate after they started talking to each other frequently.

The girl used to meet the singer in Ludhiana and Phillaur hotels. The accused established physical relations with her on several occasions. She also disclosed that their relation turned sour when she questioned the singer why she was not being featured in music albums.

The singer had started blackmailing the girl on pretext that he would make obscene videos of her public.

Inspector Sukhwinder Kaur said the police would arrest the singer soon.

It has been learnt that Gill appeared before police several times and the police helped him escape from paparazzi. In April, the accused appeared before ADCP city-1 Nilambri Jagdale and ACP (west) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal at office of Purewal, adjoining to police station Sarabha Nagar. The police officers had helped the singer to escape by jumping over the wall of the office out-witting the media.
