As per the schedule, in men's category Sierra Leone vs Canada and USA vs New Zealand and in women's category Pakistan vs England and Denmark vs England will be held at the War Heroes Stadium. The earlier announced fifth match between Denmark and Scotland in men's category was cancelled due to unknown reasons.
Briefing about the arrangements by the district administration for the smooth conduct of the matches, Sangrur deputy commissioner Indu Malhotra said all arrangements have been completed and the district administration was set to organise the matches as per the schedule from 11.30am to 5pm. As Sangrur was emerging as a sports hub of the state, the administration was expecting a huge crowd in the matches, she added.
Talking to the Hindustan Times, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, senior superintendent of police, Sangrur, said the district police had made elaborate arrangements to ensure full security inside and outside of the stadium and smooth passage of traffic. In this regard, the police were conducting rehearsal at the ground for the last two days, he added.
When asked about steps being taken by the district police to check doping in the games, the SSP said the Sangrur police would corporate fully with the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) teams to make it a drug-free event.
The local police officers, requesting anonymity, said amid almost daily revelations on drug mafia in the region, the district police would also keep a close watch on the spectators and players, especially NRIs.
All teams will reach the stadium in the morning the same day. The district administration was claiming that the arrangements have been completed to make it a hassle-free event, but the visitors may face traffic jams and parking problem as the stadium is located in the middle of the town and most of the roads leading to the stadium are narrow.
