In the absence of Sukhbir, local leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who was present on the occasion, recalling the promises made by the deputy chief minister last year announced that the promises of installing flood lights and increasing the seating capacity of the stadium would be fulfilled soon.

It was on December 6 last year that the deputy CM had announced to increase the seating capacity of the stadium to 25,000 along with facilities like floodlights and the latest infrastructure.

With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the stadium has turned out to be a political arena between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress leaders of the region.

Congress MP Vijay Inder Singla had recently managed to get sanctioned the central project of laying the synthetic track at the stadium.

Now senior Dhindsa, who is also aspiring to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur, was struggling hard to prove his contribution to the development of the region and get the earlier promises fulfilled as early as possible.

Worried over the recent visit of union sports minister Jitender Singh, who had inaugurated the construction of the Rs 6.87-crore synthetic track at the stadium on Singla's request, Dhindsa, speaking from the commentary box, lauded the schemes of the SAD-BJP government in Punjab and said, "The recent announcement of upgradation of this stadium will be fulfilled soon".

Today along with several private buses, 16 PRTC buses were also deputed to provide pick-and-drop facility to kabaddi lovers, especially coming from remote villages.

However, when contacted, deputy commissioner Indu Malhotra said no government buses were provided for free f travel of kabaddi spectators.

As far as the spectators at the matches are co concerned, the policemen more in numbers that the viewers as almost all blocks, including the VVIP galleries, were seen occupied by men in uniform. Every second person sitting in visitors blocks was a policeman.

In spite of heavy police force deployed for the event, commuters had to face long jams after the event was over.
