When the media informed Arwinder Singh Bains, managing director, warehouse, about the deed of the officials, he said he would ask the district officer to inquire the matter. He added that to open the office on Sunday and to drink in the office would not be tolerated. He would take action against the officers if found guilty.

The trucks, which were loaded with subsidised wheat, were meant for the ration depots of the government public distribution system (PDS). However, the trucks went to the flourmills for sale.

The bureau had booked Punjab agro inspector Jaspal Singh, owner of Shanti flourmills at Jugiana Subhash Chander and truck owners under Sections 406, 409, 420, 120-B of IPC and 13 (1) D of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Feeling the heat of the action, the warehouse officials opened the lock of the office in Machhiwara and maintained the records. Later, they started taking liquor in the office.
