Talking to mediapersons here, Khaira said 95% of party workers are opposing the Delhi leadership’s decision and the convention will give a new direction to the party.
A day after the demand to take back the decision to remove him as leader of opposition (LoP) was rejected by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, a defiant Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Monday appealed to party workers to attend the August 2 convention in Bathinda to seek more autonomy for the state unit.
Talking to mediapersons here, Khaira said 95% of party workers are opposing the Delhi leadership’s decision and the convention will give a new direction to the party.
He was joined AAP MLAs Amarjit Singh Sandoha (Rupnagar), Jagdev Singh Kamalu (Maur), Pirmal Singh (Bhadaur) and Baldev Singh of Jaito.
The AAP leader said in the convention they will propose the volunteers to seek more autonomy and so that the culture of taking decisions through tweets is not repeated in future.
Asked if it will lead to parallel functioning of party organisation in the state, he said, “We had gone to meet Manish Sisodia on Sunday with a hope but sadly he didn’t accept our demand as he didn’t bother to understand the ground reality in Punjab.
He also invited the Delhi leadership to take part in the convention.
“We are hopeful of getting support of as many as 15 MLAs. We will only seek more autonomy for the Punjab unit to strengthen the party,” he said.
