The match also marked foreign imports Keegan Nash and Kayne Vincent’s I-League debut but none looked too impressive. While Nash maybe just one of the few problems for coach Subroto Bhattacharya, Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil would have his hands full as nothing went right for the Mumbai side.
The visitors had an early chance to take the lead when Vincent — who has spent two seasons in the J-League in Japan — found himself unmanned in front of Chirag custodian Sandip Nandy but shot over.
Chirag United wasted no time to get going from there and almost sealed the match with Edmilson’s brace within a span of seven minutes. Central midfielder Jayanta Sen made a brilliant dash down the left and sent a cross to an advancing Edmilson who drove home on the run.
Mumbai FC gifted away the second goal, courtesy goalkeeper Amit Singha Roy. Joshimar Martins, failing to find space, passed on to Edmilson who unleashed a piledriver that Roy spilled. One anticipated a substitution but Jamil chose to stuck to his ward.
The forward duo of Abhishek Yadav and Vincent, despite commanding a height advantage failed to get any breakthrough.
