Hockey World Cup 2023: Germany Team Profile
Germany have been among the most consistent sides in the tournament reaching at least the semi-finals in every edition since 1973 till they failed to make it past the group stage in 2014.
Germany have won the tournament twice in 2002 and 2006. They have been among the most consistent sides in the tournament reaching at least the semi-finals in every edition since 1973 till they failed to make it past the group stage in 2014.

Germany's two World Cup titles came in back to back editions, making them the first team to defend their title since Pakistan in 1982. Apart from this, Germany have finished runners-up twice - at Mumbai 1982 where they lost the final 3-1 to Pakistan and New Delhi 2010 where they were beaten 2-1 by Australia in the title clash.
Germany had sent a rather young team in 2010 devoid of most of the stars who had won the previous two editions of the tournament. With the loss in the final to Australia, Germany thus missed out on becoming the first team to win the title on three consecutive occasions.
Germany's victory in the 2002 final was a rather surprising one. Facing a strong Australian side, Germany had gone 1-0 down but then managed to come from behind and win the game 2-1.
