Kush Maini to race in Formula 2 in 2023
Maini will drive a Dallara F2 car alongside Swiss teammate Ralph Boschung for the Spanish team.
Rising up the ladder, Kush Maini, on Tuesday, announced that he will drive for Campos Racing in the 2023 Formula 2 season. If Jehan Daruvala decides to go for a fourth season in F2 next year, India will have two racers in the primary feeder series for Formula 1.
Maini will drive a Dallara F2 car alongside Swiss teammate Ralph Boschung for the Spanish team which finished last in the Constructor's Championship. Both drivers will carry out F2’s post-season collective testing in Abu Dhabi on November 23-25 in preparation for the 2023 season.
“Super happy to be joining Campos Racing team. I’ve spent some time with the team at their workshop and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the professionalism, Looking forward to the three-day test at Abu Dhabi to officially start our relationship together,” said Maini.
Born in Bengaluru, the 22-year-old made his single-seater debut in the 2016 Italian F4 Championship. After another year in the series, Maini joined the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship in 2018, finishing third, before switching to Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019.
Maini returned to British F3 in 2020 where he finished runner-up with three wins and 12 podium finishes. The 2021 season saw Maini take part in the Formula 3 Asian Championship and a round of the World Endurance Championship before joining the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the 2022 season. Driving for MP Motorsport, Maini had a pretty average season, finishing 14th with 31 points which included a podium finish at Hungary.
Maini will follow in the footsteps of his brother Arjun Maini, who was an F2 driver in 2018 and 2019 before moving to sportscar racing. The elder brother drove selected rounds in 2019 F2, also for Campos.
“On behalf of Campos Racing, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Kush. He is a very committed, professional racing driver with a great work capacity, so we expect he will be able to complete a strong rookie season next year,” Campos Racing team principal Adrian Campos said. “He carried out some strong performances in FIA Formula 3 this season and hopefully he will make further improvements in the ultra-competitive FIA F2 Championship.”
