UFC Fight Night: Belal Muhammad asserts he's ready for bigger challenges
Belal Muhammad has not tasted defeat in his previous six fights and is confident to repeat at the UFC Fight Night against Stephen Thompson.
Belal Muhammad would look to continue his unbeaten run when he steps inside the octagon against Stephen Thompson in the co-main event at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night. The 5ft10' fighter has not tasted defeat in his previous six fights and is confident to repeat the same on Saturday.
Speaking to Hindustan Times in an exclusive chat, Muhammad exuded nothing but confidence and backed his karate skills to do the business against the rank 5 Thompson.
"I will beat him. I wouldn't be here if I wouldn't," said the welterweight fighter. "It's a fight, anything can happen. I've seen some weaknesses in his game that I plan to exploit. So it's gonna be a fun night," he added.
When asked what would be his strategy against Thompson, the welterweight fighter said he has been watching plenty of Daniel LaRusso videos and aims for a similar takedown against him.
"I'm a blackbelt in karate, so I'll be playing the karate game with him. I've been watching a lot of Daniel LaRusso and stuff like that. So it's going to be cool stuff, I'm gonna go out there and play that game," said Muhammad.
Muhammad is currently ranked 10 and a win against Thompson would help him climb to a higher rank, if not the top 5. This in return will excel his chances of a title shot.
When asked if he will be challenging reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington in the coming year, Muhammad said: "Yeah for sure. I'm gonna just get past Stephen Thompson, he's number 5 and I'm gonna be fighting for the title next year."
'I wanna see Conor McGregor in person'
Muhammad also spoke about his long conflict against Irish MMA star Conor McGregor. Fans have witnessed some heated exchanges between the duo and Muhammad asserts that if given an opportunity he will not think twice before settling things inside the octagon.
Briefing us about how things escalated between the two, the current rank number 10 said: "We were both going down the escalator once, he shoulder bumped me and I shoulder bumped him harder, and ever since it has never been the same. Like he tried to be cool with me and shoulder bump me which means business for me, so that's how it started."
"Honestly, if I see him in the octagon we're going to fight. I wanna see that guy in person," he concluded.
