Wimbledon 2023 Highlights: Alcaraz beats Medvedev to set up blockbuster Djokovic clash in final

Well, well, well! Djokovic has been left annoyed. He has been called for an hindrance during a screaming backhand down the line. That's a big call from chair umpire Richard Haigh.

First double fault of the match and Sinner goes 0-30 down. He then sends a backhand return long and Djokovic has triple break point chances. The Italian saves one after a rare unforced error from Djokovic and did it again with a stunning forehand return. But Djokovic gets third time lucky. The Serb breaks early again and Sinner is in deep, deep trouble.

Sinner had his chances and he failed to capitalise on them. Djokovic made just one 1st serve in, but Sinner could not make a breakthrough. Both players have held serve in the first two games of the 2nd set

Was there a doubt? Never! And after breaking early in the opening set, he made a statement of intent against the 21-year-old. Djokovic wins the 1st set 6-3 in the first men's singles semi-final

He comfortably moved through his service game, holding to 15 and making it 3-5. Can he get the crucial break back now?

The defending champion is racing away with the opening set with Sinner unable to break back yet. The Serb has gone 5-2 up with a game away from taking the opening set

A break point opportunity for Sinner finally, but decides to go for the crosscourt winner and put too power behind it. Djokovic saves it and then comfortably closes the game.

For first time in 21 years has a player made the Wimbledon semis without facing a seeded player. Jannik Sinner has done fine for himself on making his maiden Grand Slam semifinal. But up against the toughest task at the SW19, he has made a sluggish start. He has been broken in his first service game with Djokovic going 3-0 up on serve before he managed to get on the scoreboard.

A power-packed beginning to the first set! Djokovic saved a break point to take a 1-0 lead in the opening set. Sinner has shown early signs that will once again come hard at the Serbian.

Storm Sanders and Elise Mertens have won the opening set (6-1) in the women's double semi-final against Zhang Shuai and Caroline Dolehide.

Sinner has won the toss and he has elected to receive. Wow, what a moment this is. If Djokovic wins this, he will be the first in the open era to make it to 35 Grand Slam finals and mind you, in the eight times that he has made it to the Wimbledon finals, he has won seven of those.

We are minutes away from the start of the first men's singles semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner. 

What happened they met the last time? Sinner was 2-0 up in last year's Wimbledon quarters before Djokovic, after a toilet break, turned the match on its head to win the next three sets and move into the semis.

It's one-way traffic at the moment in the first set of the women's doubles semi-final. The sixth-seeded pair of Storm Sanders and Elise Mertens have taken a 4-1 lead against Zhang Shuai and Caroline Dolehide

Storm Sanders and Elise Mertens have straightaway broken in the first game. What a way to start for the third seeds. They have taken a 2-0 lead in the first set.

We are all set for live action at Court 1 on Day 12. Zhang Shuai and Caroline Dolehide will take on Storm Sanders and Elise Mertens in the women's doubles semi-final. The Players are making their way out in the centre.

We will see a lot of firepower in the men's singles semi-final but before the match, there was nothing but mutual respect between the top-class players.

"He's won 23 Grand Slams. Won in Australia, won in Paris. He's in a huge confidence boost," said Sinner about his opponent Djokovic. 

"He's playing on a high level... He likes to play on quick surfaces because he likes to be aggressive and take control of the point," said Djokovic about Sinner.

"He has had a great year as well. I lost the first match we played here on grass so I have to learn about it," Alcaraz said of his straight-sets loss to the Russian in the 2021 second round.

When he was 17, which was actually not long ago, he was much less mature, which is normal and he was missing," said Medvedev about Alcaraz.

Both world no.1 Alcaraz and third seed Daniil Medvedev are first-time semi-finalists at Wimbledon. Alcaraz has gone from strength-to-strength after clinching the Queen's Club crown despite a lack of experience on grass. The 20-year-old Spaniard will need to show his best form to overcome Medvedev, another player enjoying a superb 2023 with five titles already, although he struggled to beat American debutant Christopher Eubanks in the quarter-finals.

Djokovic is eyeing his 8th Wimbledon title which will put him on par with Roger Federer's all-time record in men's singles in the open era. The Serb is out and out favourite and Sinner, 15 years younger than his opponent, knows that. But the Italian ran Djokovic deep 12 months ago in the Wimbledon quarter-final. He will hope to take that one step more to pull off an upset.
