Wimbledon 2023 final Highlights: Vondrousova beats Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 to lift maiden Grand Slam title, creates history

“I don’t know what is happening, it is an amazing feeling. After everything I have been through it is amazing I can stand here and hold this. Tennis is crazy!" says Vondrousova after becoming the first unseeded player to win Wimbledon women's singles title.

“This is the most painful loss of my career,” Jabeur says with tears in her eyes. It will take some time to adjust. But she is strong enough to state that she will come back and claim the trophy, perhaps next year. “We're going to make it one day, I promise you.”

Ons Jabeur had a shot at history for two years in a row but it wasn't to be. She came second best last year and this time around, despite being the favourite in the final, she was outdone by a spirited Vondrousova.  

Dreams do come true! Fairytales are for real! Marketa Vondrousova is the brand ambassador for dreams. Wasn't even playing tennis the last time Wimbledon took place. She was in the stands watching one of her friends play. But today, she has done the unthinkable. What a moment! Jabeur somehow survives in the service game to gain a pressure-relieving hold as she gains 4-3 lead in the 2nd set. 

It's all level in the second set as Vondrousova holds serve to make it 3-all on Centre Court.

She looked mentally down at the start of the second set before she bounced back to take 3-1 lead. Vondrousova, however, broke back to put it back on serve

She lost the opening set against Elena Rybakina in the quarters and then against Aryna Sabalenka in the semis but bounced back in both the matches to win the next two sets. Can she script a similar against Vondrousova?

For the fourth time has a player broken serve in this opening set of the women's singles final. This time Vondrousova avenged it with a break to love.

That was a quick hold from Jabeur, who has been serving better this season than she was in the last year. 40-0! Vondrousova pulls one back with a stunning volley. Jabeur eventually held serve

Jabeur loses two quick points leaving her utterly frustrated. Couple of backhand exchanges with sliced returns and then Jabuer bangs the down-the-line return to make it 30-all. And then gets the chance to break, again. Vondrousova used the slice to her advantage to land the drop shot as Jabeur looked for a cheeky return, but was denied by the net cord. Jabeur gained the advantage however, a second break point chance in the game, but lost the opportunity on an unforced return. Another long rally, another backhand down the line and Jabeur gives herself another shot at breaking the Czech's serve. Denied again! 4th deuce in the game. And finally a volley from Vondrousova gives her a chance at closing the game. And she does it after Jabeur errs on the drop shot

The Tunisian is in complete control of the opening set as she raced away to 40-15 before the Czech's forehand drew two errors from Jabuer. The latter then erred on her forehand to hand Vondrousova the advantage. Jabeur saved the first break point with forehand crosscourt volley and then gained advantage herself. Vondrousova bounced back to earn second break-point chance and got the break back.

Jabeur puts early pressure on Vondrousova. She has been charging towards the net to deny the angles leading to errors. And Jabeur eventually broke serve, despite slipping on the last point.

"I feel like we're the same in some things. We're playing drop shots. We're playing slice. But we played a few times already this year. We were supposed to play in Eastbourne also first round, but I withdrew. She's used to playing finals in a Grand Slam. I mean, it's a final, so it's going to be a tough match no matter who is there."
