The kidney and liver were acquired from the body of Karthik, a daily wage labourer who was involved in a fatal accident. The organs were brought to the TN capital by air ambulance on Monday night.
Rebel AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran on Wednesday announced that M Natarajan, his uncle and husband of former party general secretary VK Sasikala, has undergone a successful liver-and-kidney transplant surgery and is recuperating at a private hospital in Chennai.

Natarajan was admitted to the Gleneagles Global Hospital at Perumbakkam on September 10, after he suffered multiple organ failure. Dinakaran spoke to mediapersons after visiting his uncle at the medical institute.
The kidney and liver were harvested from Karthik, a daily wage labourer who was airlifted in a brain-dead state from Thanjavur government hospital to the Chennai medical institute on Monday night. Karthik was involved in a fatal accident.
Officials of the Coimbatore-based Ganga air ambulance services, which ferried the labourer’s unresponsive body from Tiruchirapally to Chennai, refused to divulge the billed amount or the person who had remitted the same.
Doctors at the Gleneagles Global Hospital said 74-year-old Natarajan’s condition stabilised after a nearly eight-hour-long organ transplant operation that began late on Tuesday night. Dinakaran said doctors have assured him that the patient is already on the road to recovery.
Sasikala had earlier sought 15-day parole in order to meet Natarajan.
