Flash floods are generally caused due to hill torrents cascading down steep slopes. Bank erosion in the upper reaches with steep slopes and the bed consisting of boulders is a natural regulating function of a river.
The entire river plain is unrecognisable, and the damage is particularly severe in areas such as Manali, Aloo Ground, Patli Kuhal, Raison, Devdham, Bhuntar, and Manikaran valley.
Approximately 250 people stranded in the Mand area near the Beas River in Kapurthala's Bholath sub-division were evacuated due to rising water levels. The army, Punjab police, and locals helped in the rescue operation and the evacuees have been moved to relief camps. Jalandhar has also been put on high alert due to the release of water from Bhakra Dam.
