Delhi shivers under 2nd straight cold wave day, relief likely from Thursday

Tuesday’s minimum was recorded at the Safdarjung station, which provides the representational data for Delhi, but the mercury dropped to even lower levels at other parts of the city, including the stations at Lodhi Road (2°C).

Delhi’s minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to rise, with cold wave conditions forecast to abate over the city from January 19 onwards

Chill sets in as Delhi braces for cold wave

On Sunday, the Capital’s Safdarjung station, the official weather station for the city, recorded a minimum of 4.7°C, but conditions were chillier at other locations, with Jafarpur recording 2.6°C, Lodhi Road 3.8°C and Ayanagar 3°C – technically entering cold wave territory.

Mercury likely to dip again from Sunday, forecasts IMD

Meanwhile, the Capital reported shallow fog on Friday, with visibility at both Safdarjung and Palam weather stations reported at 500 m at 8.30 am.

Season’s lowest, yet: Temperature plunges to 4.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi

While Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius, residents will further need to brace for coldwave conditions which are set to return to the capital.

Delhi saw fewer ‘severe’ air hours in 2022 than 2021: CAQM data

The commission said that between 2018 and 2022, Delhi recorded its lowest monthly average Air Quality Index (AQI) in three months (January, February and December), and the second-lowest in three other months (July, October, November), indicating considerable progress on the ground

PM2.5 level improves in Delhi but still twice national average

The average PM2.5 concentration in 2017 was 118.43µg/m³, which improved to 114.86µg/m³ in 2018. In 2019, the concentration was 109.18, which dipped to 99.01µg/m³ in 2020, the lowest in the last six years.

Delhi records highest maximum temperature in 26 days, may fall this week: Met

IMD’s forecasts show Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to drop to around 26 degrees Celsius by Tuesday and 25 degrees Celsius by Wednesday. It will touch the 24 degrees Celsius mark by Friday, forecasts show.

Humidity, clear sky push up discomfort levels in Delhi: IMD

Wet bulb temperature is the lowest temperature to which air can be cooled by evaporation at constant pressure. Wet bulb temperatures of over 32 degrees makes it difficult for even fit and acclimatised people to work outdoors.

IMD predicts heavy rainfall in several states over the next few days. Check here

The weather agency predicted isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms or lightning in Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on Wednesday. East Madhya Pradesh, ghat areas of central Maharashtra, and Konkan along with Goa might experience downpours during the next five days.

Delhi: After sultry Monday, IMD's orange alert for heavy rains on Wednesday

The onset of monsoon in Delhi was declared on Thursday, with the Capital recording 117.2mm of rain in a span of 24 hours, pushing the temperature down significantly and giving the city its coolest day in 116 days on Thursday.

Dry day pushes Delhi’s temperature up; IMD forecasts light rain for today

According to the IMD's weekly forecast, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 35°C on Sunday and the minimum may touch 26°C. A generally cloudy sky is expected on Sunday with light rain and thundershowers, the forecast said.

Mercury plummets 11.9°C in a day, caps off a hotter than normal June in Delhi

While Delhi received 116.6mm rain on June 30, it took place after 8.30 am on Thursday. This means that it will be accounted for in July’s rain data. The IMD calculates the day’s rainfall reading between 8.30am and 8.30am the next day.

Delhi's max temperature falls below 40°C after 13 days, rain likely in 2 days

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in Delhi, a warning for thunderstorms or light rain over the next six days (till June 20). Furthermore, owing to western disturbance and lower level easterlies, the national capital is likely to receive rainfall between June 16 and 18.
