EC concerned over increasing use of money power in elections, Supreme Court told

Gujarat polls: Only 139 women candidates in fray out of total 1,621 contestants

The BJP has given tickets to 18 women candidates as against 12 in 2017, while the Congress has fielded 14 women although that figure was 10 in the last Assembly election. The two parties have also accommodated more number of women candidates from Dalit and tribal communities this time.

ECI said it may not be appropriate for the Commission, being a constitutional authority, to be part of the expert committee, especially if there are ministries or government bodies in the panel.
