New excise policy: Liquor set to get costlier in Haryana from June 12

Hike in excise duty, licence fee for bars, bottling fee for beer estimated to increase revenue by over ₹110 crore; the state government took approval from the Election Commission for bringing the new policy during the imposition of model code of conduct as the allotment of liquor vends has to be made by inviting e-tenders.

Licence of another bottling plant cancelled in Chandigarh

Excise-taxation commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh issued the orders to cancel the licence of M/S Rock & Storm Bottlers Private Limited till further orders

Based on inputs about discrepancies in stocks of blending VATs and finished stock, a surprise inspection was conducted by the excise staff under the supervision of Chandigarh sub-divisional magistrate (SDM, East) Nitish Singla. (HT File)

Karnataka to reduce price of premium liquor to boost sales

To rationalise tax slabs and make them competitive with neighbouring states, the tax slabs for IML and beer will be revised, said CM Siddaramaiah.

Fadnavis announces probe into builder-underworld link in MOB case

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced a probe into the alleged nexus between builders, the Dawood gang, and Edelweiss Financial Services in relation to the funding of the gaming app Mahadev Online Book. Fadnavis has also called on Bollywood actors and cricket stars not to endorse online gaming and said that the state government will enact a law to take action against gambling platforms. Edelweiss has dismissed the allegations. The Enforcement Directorate has already registered a case and the Mumbai police have formed an SIT to probe any city links.
