Only 15 percent of BMC budget allocated for wards, finds Praja-TISS report
Only 15% of the budgetary provision for 2023-24 has been allocated at the ward level in Mumbai, with the remaining 85% retained for major works. Wards in the island city have received more funding for civic amenities compared to suburban areas, according to a report by Praja Foundation and Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The report suggests introducing participatory budgeting at the ward level and allocating a proportion of the BMC revenue expenditure to each administrative ward based on economic, geographic, and population data.

Traffic cops identify 13 bottlenecks in the city
One of the key bottlenecks on the Western Express Highway (WEH), listed by the department is at Akurli, in Kandivali. Three of the four north-bound lanes in Akurli have been shut down to facilitate the widening of the Akurli vehicular subway by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The result – a 20-minute journey from Andheri to Akurli, which is around 10 kilometers, takes 80 minutes on most days during peak hours

Mahim Causeway to be widened from 6 lanes to 10 lanes
Mumbai commuters will face a difficult journey between the city and suburbs for the next 36 months as a key bridge is taken down for renovation. The bridge over River Mithi, part of Mahim Causeway, will be replaced with a wider and longer path. The bridge is a critical junction connecting Mahim with SV Road and is used by office workers and those travelling to the airport. The renovation is necessary as the bridge is almost 60 years old, and the work will be carried out in phases over the next three years.
