Desilting pending, no lessons learnt from last year’s flood fury

AAP Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal and independent MLA from Sultanpur Lodhi Rana Inder Partap Singh have written to officials for desilting under the railway overbridges, mainly situated over Sutlej in Gidderpindi village of Jalandhar, and Goindwal Sahib railway bridge over Beas river.

During floods last year, the water entered over 20 villages of Jalandhar and 20 villages of Kapurthala on July 7.

Jalandhar youth dies in Canada as bike falls into 300m gorge

Ashwinder Singh, the deceased’s uncle, said Jasmehar had gone to Harrison hot springs, a mountain area in British Columbia, with his friend Amandeep Singh when their ATV (all-terrain vehicle) bike slipped and fell into a 300m deep gorge.

The deceased has been identified as Jasmehar Singh, the nephew of Shahkot MLA Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia. He was a Canadian citizen living in Surrey in British Columbia. (HT File)
