Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She is better known as "Queen of Melody.” She has sung songs in many different languages. She received her first music lesson from Marathi singer, Deenanath Mangeshkar. She is the recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Bharat Ratna for her exceptional contribution in the field of music. Her name also appeared in Guinness World Record as the most recorded artist between 1948 and 1987. She died at the age of 92. Her last recorded song was "Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti ki", paying tribute to the Indian Army for their bravery.

'Was supposed to sing only one song for 'Umrao Jaan': Asha Bhosle

Asha Bhosle sang several songs in Umrao Jaan, including Dil Cheez Kya Hai, In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke, and Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston. 

Asha Bhosle talked about singing for the film Umrao Jaan, which starred Rekha in the lead role.

State sanctions 210 crore for Lata Mangeshkar music college

In January 2022, the erstwhile government led by Uddhav Thackeray declared to establish an international music college as a tribute to the legendary singer. The proposed institution was named, ‘Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International College of Music and Museum’

The design and plan were also approved by the Mangeshkar family, and the advisory board was set up to help the government in setting up the international college and courses. (HT ARCHIVES)
