State sees acute shortage of IFS officers

Maharashtra is facing a shortage of Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers at senior levels, with three tiger reserves and three territorial ranges lacking directors and chief officers respectively. Forest officials attribute the scarcity to low IFS officer intake in the 1990s. The current sanctioned strength of IFS officers is 206, but there are only around 150 officers in the state. This shortage is affecting the functioning of the forest department and the management of tiger reserves.

AIMTC urges govt to close state border checkposts

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has demanded the abolition of border checkposts in India, starting with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka. AIMTC has given an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government to make a decision by October 2. The transporters argue that all necessary documents are available online and that border checkposts lead to extortion and wasted time and fuel. AIMTC has written a letter to the Prime Minister asking for the abolition of border checkposts. The state transport department has formed a committee to study the issue.

Pune to experience increase in rainfall from Sept 22: IMD

Maharashtra will experience another active monsoon condition from September 21 as a low-pressure area has formed over the West Bay of Bengal. The system will bring good spells in Vidarbha and north Maharashtra, and light and isolated moderate rains in other areas. Pune city and adjoining areas will experience an increase in rainfall from September 22 onwards, with a chance of isolated heavy rainfall. The state is experiencing phase-wise partial monsoon revival in September due to the system development in the Bay of Bengal.

Maharashtra has failed to meet the deadline for 100% tap water connection in rural areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with only 79.48% coverage achieved. Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, India, has become the first government institute in Maharashtra to successfully perform a Robotic Total Knee Replacement surgery. The procedure was carried out on a 60-year-old patient and was a success.
