Crime graph rose by 22% in Chandigarh; three-fold rise in cases against elderly: NCRB report

As per the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 3,254 cases were registered across police stations in the city in 2020. The figure dipped by 8% to 2,995 in 2021. The following year, in 2022, the figure rose by 22% at 3,658 cases. In 2022, Chandigarh witnessed registration of 3,658 cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special and Local Laws (SLLs)- the highest in three years.

NCRB data: Jump in rape cases, but overall crime rate sees a dip in Punjab

The state registered 5,572 FIRs under various crimes against women as compared to 5,662 in 2021, bringing down the cases by 90.

In 2022, all 517 rape case victims were above the age of 18 years whereas in 2021, of the total 464 cases 10 victims were less than 18 years of age.
