Confirming the influx of residents that have crossed the border and taken shelter in the Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district, Assam police officers said a majority of the 800 people crossed the border between Friday and Monday night.
The Gurugram district administration has formed teams to check on people sleeping in the open and shift them to the nearest shelter. The teams will visit public places and ensure that those found sleeping in the open are taken to shelter homes. The city currently has 12 night shelters, and efforts are being made to spread awareness about their availability. The district administration is also coordinating with gurudwaras and NGOs for food arrangements at the shelters.
