The felicitation was carried out by the Sikh bodies including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). On behalf of the Akal Takht and Sikh community, Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh presented her the gold medal and the golden kirpan, besides a replica of the Golden Temple.
The film’s trailer had led to an uproar in Punjab with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and several Sikh organisations objecting to the way it portrayed Sikhs. They have demanded a ban on the film in the state.

Sikh hardliners are divided over this issue.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh demanded that all these accused dera head, Honeypreet, and Kler should be arrested and prosecuted immediately.
Following the edict of the Akal Takht, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is all set to ensure that the Nishan Sahib flags, hoisted on the premises of gurdwaras, carry either surmai (navy blue) or basanti (a shade of yellow) colours.
