Himachal Pradesh Speaker accepts resignation of 3 Independent MLAs

State set for three more assembly byelections after Speaker accepts resignations of Independent MLAs Hoshiyar Singh (Dehra), Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur) and KL Thakur (Nalagarh); effective strength of the House comes down to 59 with 34 Congress MLAs and 25 BJP members.

“When I sit inside the chamber I enjoy the executive powers, and the powers which are entrusted to me by the Constitution and administrative powers are subject to judicial scrutiny,” said Kuldeep Singh Pathania talking to the media.

Himachal: 3 Independent MLAs skip hearing before speaker

Speaker says three violated scheduled 10th of Constitution by joining BJP before acceptance of their resignation. Pathania had summoned Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma; Nalagarh MLA KL Thakur and Dehra MLA Hoshiyar Singh Thakur. The speaker had summoned them to hear their side on the petition filed by revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi.

Amidst the electioneering, the three Independent legislators who had joined the BJP, skipped the hearing before speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Saturday. The speaker has now fixed the case for the final hearing. (HT File)
