SP-Cong pact ‘unethical’ and of no consequence: UP BJP chief

“In a way it’s good that the two parties firmed up a prepoll alliance so that now they won’t be able to find easy excuses. But Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who frequently talks about spreading love must also talk of what he has to say on his alliance partner Samajwadi Party’s role in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. It seems that the Congress leader forgot his own remarks against the SP on the subject,” the BJP chief said .

Decade after decision, U.P. fishermen to get same benefits as those available to farmers

Despite the Cabinet decision by the then Samajwadi Party (SP) government headed by Akhilesh Yadav in 2014, equating the fisheries sector with agriculture, non-issuance of follow-up orders by the departments like the energy, revenue and irrigation kept fishermen deprived of the perks enjoyed by their agricultural counterparts.

Departments concerned may issue long-pending orders before the Lok Sabha elections, clearing the decks for fishermen to avail of all those benefits that are available to farmers in the state that produces around 9-10 lakh MT of fish annually. (Pic for representation)

UP, which is now the country’s second-largest economy and has 80 Lok Sabha seats, also holds the key to a ‘Modi-fied’ BJP’s attempt to score a hat-trick of wins at the centre. This is reason perhaps why a blend of religious outreach and economic makeover talks make for a ‘good poll narrative’ too
