At least 10 members of India's Great Andamanese tribe tested positive for Covid-19, as per media reports. The tribe has just over 50 people surviving today living on Andaman's Strait Island. In India, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba said J&K and nine other states account for 89% of Covid-19 deaths in the last two weeks. Centre gives 2 options to states on GST compensation, 7 days to reply

<p>The Centre on Thursday placed before the GST Council two options for borrowing by states to meet the shortfall in GST revenues, pegged at Rs 2.35 lakh crore in the current fiscal. Briefing reporters after the 41st meeting of the GST Council, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the economy is facing an extraordinary 'Act of God' situation, which may result in economic contraction. Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey said of this, Rs 97,000 crore is on account of GST shortfall, while the rest is due to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy. Pandey said a special window can be provided to the states, in consultation with the RBI, at a reasonable interest rate for borrowing of Rs 97,000 crore. The amount can be repaid after five years (of GST implementation) ending 2022 from cess collection. The second option before the states is to borrow the entire Rs 2.35 lakh crore shortfall under the special window.</p>

SC favors Patanjali Ayurved in trademark dispute, allows using term ‘Coronil’

<p>The Supreme Court Thursday refused to entertain a plea challenging the Madras High Court decision to stay a single Judge order, which had restrained Patanjali Ayurved Ltd from using the trademark 'Coronil'. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said “If we prevent the use of word “Coronil” during the pandemic on the ground that there is some pesticide on its name, it will be terrible for the first product.” It allowed the petitioner to withdraw the plea with liberty to pursue it before the high court and the matter was dismissed as withdrawn.</p>

<p>Draped in a saree, a humanoid robot, Zafira greets customers at a garment store at Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli. The robot is equipped with artificial intelligence and keeps tracks of the number of customers entering the store at a time and monitors them to ensure they follow social distancing and wear masks. Zafira also checks people's temperatures and even dispenses sanitizer. “We have developed robots ever since Covid broke out to help frontline workers. The robot has a complete intelligence system. It tracks the number of people entering the store at a time and send details to owners via email, daily,” said Aashik Rahman, CEO, Zafi Robots. Zafira is proving to be extremely helpful at the store. Covid update: Delhi 90% recovery rate; govt exams delayed in Maharashtra

‘Will conduct 40,000 tests per day’: Arvind Kejriwal on Covid crisis in Delhi

Covid vaccine: India, Russia in talks after Putin declares drug ready-for-use

Watch: Covid prevention norms flouted at West Bengal Law Minister’s event

<p>Even as Covid cases in West Bengal continue to surge, a blatant flouting of Covid norms was witnessed during an event in Asansol which was attended by the state's Law Minister Moloy Ghatak. The minister was felicitating toppers of the state examinations. Many people had gathered at the venue. ‘Could reduce Covid deaths by 35%’: Donald Trump approves plasma therapy in US

‘Shooting of films, TV serials can resume with SOPs’: Prakash Javadekar

<p>The Centre announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for resuming shooting of films and TV programs on Sunday. The SOPs were announced by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. SOPs include social distancing and mandatory use of face cover or masks. Javadekar added that shooting can be started using these SOPs. The SOPs have been released in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. SOPs have been finalized after consulting health and home ministries. “Shooting of films, TV serials was stopped due to COVID for the last 6 months. Some states had given permissions so it had somehow started in places. We have issued SOPs for shooting as per international experience, consulting Health ministry and Home ministry,” Javadekar said. He added, “Apart from actors, all others will have to wear masks during shoots. Social distancing will also have to be followed by all. This is an important aspect of the economy and employs millions of people. We have issued SOPs to facilitate the production activity to resume.</p>

Covid: Kejriwal hands over Rs 1 cr to family of MCD worker who died from virus

The sanitation worker, Raju, contracted the virus while he was on duty amid the coronavirus crisis. Arvind Kejriwal visited the family of the sanitation worker and handed over the cheque. The Delhi Chief Minister said, “He (Raju) died while serving the people. We are proud of all such Covid warriors.” On Wednesday, Kejriwal gave an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the family of firefighter Amit Balyan, who died in a fire incident in Peeragarhi earlier this year.</p>
