Paralympians Avani Lekhara, Sumit Antil, Olympian Bajrang Punia on Tokyo medals, Paris plan

Double Paralympic medallist Avani Lekhara, speaking on Day 5 of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2021, expressed happiness with the positive change that India's Paralympic contingent has brought about with their record medal haul in Tokyo earlier this summer. "There has been a good change after winning the medal. Para sports are being recognised now", Avani told Shivani Gupta, the senior associate of CNN-News18. Tokyo Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia, said that after missing out on the prestigious gold medal earlier this summer, he hopes for a better show in Paris in 2024 Summer Olympics. "My aim was to win gold at the Olympics. I sustained an injury one month before the Olympics. But whatever short comings I have, I am sure I will be able to overcome them at Paris Games," Bajrang said. Paralympian Sumit Antil insisted that the recent Tokyo Paralympics have ensured increased recognition for para-athletes across the country. Antil, who won a gold medal in the javelin throw F64 event at the Tokyo Games, spoke in length about his experience as a Paralympian and preparation for the Tokyo Paralympics.
