In a sensational new claim, Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said that Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a short-range projectile. Reuters reported that the IRGC stated a projectile with a 7-kg warhead caused Haniyeh's death. While Iran previously alleged that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran on July 31, The New York Times disputes this, claiming Haniyeh died in a bomb blast. According to the NYT report, explosives were smuggled into Tehran two months ago and a bomb was planted in Haniyeh's room at an IRGC-run guesthouse.
