Electric vehicles in India: An overview

Electric bikes are suddenly everywhere. Electric cars can’t be told apart, but they’ve seen sales jump too. As petrol and diesel prices soar, more buyers are considering electric vehicles because they cost dramatically less to run — 1 per km against about 6.6 per km for a petrol-powered SUV. Part of what’s holding the sector back is that there aren’t enough charging stations, which limits the range of an EV. Also, EVs are a lot more expensive. And there are concerns over the life of the EV battery, which can cost half as much as the car and might need to be replaced in eight years. Take a look at an overview of the electric vehicles segment in India, with HT technology editor Vishal Mathur.
