The Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark verdict on March 4. The apex court overruled its own 1998 judgment which granted Members of Parliament and state Assemblies immunity from prosecution in bribery cases related to monetary benefit for a speech or vote in the House. A 7-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud cancelled immunity for legislators in such cases.
