Punjab gets 1st Dalit CM as Congress picks Charanjit Channi to succeed Amarinder

A day after Congress veteran Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of poll-bound Punjab amid a tussle with Navjot Singh Sidhu, the party leadership picked Charanjit Singh Channi as his successor. Channi will be the northern state's first Dalit CM. He served as technical education minister in Amarinder's Cabinet, and represents Chamkaur constituency. He was chosen after some senior leaders like Ambika Soni opted out, and others like Sunil Jakhar and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa didn't find unanimous support. Watch the full video for more.
