Uttarakhand's Hindu town Joshimath is 'sinking'; Exodus of residents likely

Joshimath, a Hindu holy town in the state of Uttarakhand, is sinking. At least 570 houses have developed cracks as a result of continued land subsidence. Residents appear to be panicked, as many families have fled the town. At least 66 families have already left the town, according to an ANI report. Joshimath is now staring at an exodus amid growing fear of a disaster. Angry locals have even blocked the Badrinath Highway in Joshimath. This comes after hundreds held a torchlight protest on Wednesday night. Slogans against the Pushkar Dhami government were raised during the torchlight protest. According to reports, the PMO is also in touch with the state government over the issue. Watch this report for more.
