5 ways to keep yourself cool amid heatwave

North India is grappling with a severe heatwave. The India Meteorological Department has issued red alerts across Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh amidst soaring temperatures. Here are five ways to keep yourself cool during a heatwave.

Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Staying hydrated helps replenish lost fluids. Water also helps cool down and regulate temperature.

Eat light meals

Heavy meals can increase metabolic heat in the body. Include hydrating foods such as watermelon, muskmelon, berries, spinach, and cucumber. Foods rich in water content help keep the body cool.

Dress appropriately

Opt for breathable and light fabrics such as cotton and linen, which help heat escape the body.

Keep your home cool

Keep windows shut during the day to keep warm air out. You can also add indoor cooling plants, which help maintain a pleasant temperature.

Take cold showers

Cold showers during heatwave can help provide relief from heat exposure and help regulate temperature.
