The Damak sub-branch of Nepal Red Cross Society in Jhapa district of eastern Nepal has decided to pay a sum of Rs 1,500 every month to a canine who has been guarding its premises at night. A meeting of the NRCS working committee agreed on Sunday to give the unnamed dog the sum as remuneration for its services.

The animal arrived at the office two weeks ago and has refused to leave the building despite attempts by employees to scare it away.

They say that it allows only employees to enter the compound at night.

“As the dog has refused to leave the premises, the working committee decided to spend Rs 30 daily or a monthly sum of Rs 1,500 on it,” Man Bahadur Budhathoki, president of the sub-branch told HT.
Lila Gurgain, secretary of the sub-branch informed that the amount would be spent on food and medication for the dog. The dog would get rice and milk daily and meat twice a week.
